What is Monthcloser?
The idea
Most personal finance tools want you to track every transaction in the moment. That's exhausting, and most people quit within weeks. Monthcloser works differently: your bank, your credit card issuer, and your employer already produce the data you need every month. You hand those three statements to Monthcloser once, and we do the rest — cross-checking them against each other to produce a verified picture of what actually happened to your money.
This is the Monthly Close Method™ — a proprietary approach that turns three documents you already receive into verified financial vitals in about five minutes.
What you get
- A verified monthly close — payslip, bank statement, and credit card statement reconciled and cross-checked. Your income confirmed against your deposit. Your spending confirmed against your statement. Your balance equation verified.
- Categorized spending — auto-classified by merchant, with rules you can edit and reuse. Fixed commitments and variable spending shown separately.
- The Close Report™ — an AI-generated financial health check-up delivered automatically after every close. A score, a plain-language reading of your month, and a clear statement of what to address and what to act on.
- Your Financial Health Score™ — a single number from 0–100 tracking your savings rate, debt service, and budget adherence, month over month. Computed directly from your verified data, never a guess.
- Verified Financial Accounts — track your SSS, Pag-IBIG, insurance policies, loans, and investments from their statements of account, all in one place. A complete picture of everything you own and owe.
- Milestones and streaks — badges for real financial progress: your first close, three and six months in a row, an improving savings rate. Your streak counts consecutive months closed without a gap.
- The Annual Forecast — after 12 consecutive closes, a forward-looking projection built entirely from your own verified history. Not a generic template — your actual trajectory.
- Ask AI — after each close, ask questions grounded in your own verified data. "What would my score be if I cut dining out by ₱2,000 next month?" answered from real numbers, not assumptions.
- Your data, always yours — encrypted, never sold, never shared. See our seven privacy commitments.
Who it's for
Employees who want to understand their money without becoming a part-time bookkeeper. If you've ever stared at a payslip wondering where it all went — Monthcloser is the answer, delivered in about five minutes at the end of every month.
Workflow
How it works
-
1
Gather your documents
At the end of the month, collect three things from your inbox: your bank statement, your credit card statement, and your payslip — all as PDFs. You don't have to create anything; these arrive every month anyway.
-
2
Upload
Go to the Add Month screen and drop in your three files. monthcloser parses them automatically, normalizes amounts and dates, and prepares a draft month for your review. Your original files are processed in memory and never stored.
-
3
Review and categorize
Check the imported lines. Monthcloser auto-categorizes most rows using your saved rules and our default categories. Edit categories inline, split cash withdrawals across categories, or add a rule that applies to future imports. You confirm the classification of each bank line before saving, so your report is accurate.
-
4
Reconcile
Monthcloser cross-checks your numbers — bank continuity, credit card total versus the payment debit, payslip net versus the salary deposit. Any mismatch is surfaced before you commit, so you catch problems early.
-
5
Close the month
One click commits the month. It is now part of your history, feeding into your monthly report and your cross-month trend view.
-
6
Get your Close Report™
Shortly after you close, your Close Report is generated automatically — your Financial Health Score, a breakdown of income, spending, savings, and debt, and one specific recommendation. Any badges you earned this month are shown too. You are done until next month.
Common questions
FAQ
How do I get access to Monthcloser?
Monthcloser is available through your employer's financial wellness program. If your employer offers Monthcloser as a benefit, your account is set up as part of onboarding. If your company does not yet offer it, ask your HR team.
My company offers Monthcloser as a benefit. How does that work?
You get the full Monthcloser experience at no cost to you, plus access to a Monthcloser Certified Coach™ (MCC™) if your program includes coaching. Your individual data always stays yours — your employer only ever sees anonymized, aggregated metrics for the whole group, never your personal numbers. If you leave your employer, your account continues on a personal subscription rather than disappearing, and your history and Annual Forecast stay with you permanently.
What is The First Close™?
The First Close is a guided session — facilitated by a Monthcloser Certified Coach — where you complete your very first monthly close. For most people it is the first mathematically verified picture of their own finances they have ever seen. It is the start of the program, not a standalone event.
Who is a Monthcloser Certified Coach™?
A trained coach who guides employees through their first close and supports the ongoing program. A Certified Coach is not a financial adviser and has no products to sell. Their only job is to help you close your month and understand what it says.
Does Monthcloser connect to my bank account?
No, and that is deliberate. Monthcloser never asks for your bank credentials or uses open banking. You upload statements you already receive — your bank account stays your bank account.
What file formats can I upload?
PDF statements for your bank, credit card, and payslip. We detect common layouts automatically and handle Philippine peso formatting.
How long does a monthly close actually take?
About five minutes once you have your statements handy. The first month takes a little longer because you are seeding categorization rules; subsequent months get faster as the system learns your merchants.
What if my statement will not parse correctly?
Most banks and credit cards use predictable layouts that we already handle. If a file fails to parse cleanly, you will see a clear error. Email support@monthcloser.com with a sanitized sample and we will usually add support quickly.
Can I edit categories or split a transaction?
Yes. Every line is editable inline. Cash withdrawals can be split across multiple categories so a single ATM trip can become groceries, dining out, and tips. Any rule you add gets remembered and applied to future imports.
What exactly is The Close Report™?
An AI-generated financial health check-up delivered automatically after every close — like a doctor's report for your money. It includes your Financial Health Score, a plain-language summary of your income and spending, how your savings and debt are trending, and one specific recommendation for next month.
What is the Financial Health Score™?
A single number from 0 to 100 reflecting your savings rate, debt service ratio, and budget adherence for the month, computed directly from your verified closed data. It is meaningful from your very first close, and the story gets richer as your history grows. It is not a credit score and has no effect on your creditworthiness with any bank or lender.
Is my Close Report reviewed by a human before I see it?
No — it is generated automatically by AI from your verified closed-month data, so it arrives within minutes. It is specific and grounded in your actual numbers, but as with any AI-generated content, use your own judgment.
What are badges and streaks?
Milestones that recognize real financial progress — your first close, three and six months in a row, an improving savings rate, staying within your income for the month, and more. Your streak counts consecutive months closed without a gap. Both appear in your Close Report and your account.
What is the Annual Forecast?
After 12 consecutive monthly closes, Monthcloser unlocks a forward-looking projection based entirely on your own verified history — your likely savings trajectory, spending patterns, and financial position over the next year. Built from your data, not a generic template. It belongs to you permanently.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
Deleting your account permanently removes your stored months, transactions, Close Reports, and rules. See the Privacy Policy for the full data lifecycle. If you are on an employer-sponsored account, speak to your HR team or contact support before deleting.
Is Monthcloser financial advice?
No. Monthcloser is a financial clarity tool, not a financial adviser. We show you what your verified numbers say — but decisions are always yours. For investment or tax decisions, consult a licensed professional.
Where is my data stored?
In an encrypted, per-user space in our database. No other user can see your data, and we do not share it with anyone outside the small set of infrastructure providers needed to run the service. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
